Topics: This week, we're going to have a little Rockbox installfest. Rockbox is an open source firmware replacement for a large and growing collection of MP3 players, from Archos devices to iPods. Bring an MP3 player with you and we'll help you install and explore Rockbox.

Rockbox is a powerful firmware replacement for a large and growing collection of MP3 players. Besides a new user interface, Rockbox includes a plethora of features that greatly enhance and expand upon the capabilites normally offered by stock factory firmwares in many players, including:

• The ability to use a larger number of audio codecs, including Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, Musepack, Monkey's Audio, Shorten, and much more
• Voiced menus; Rockbox can speak out menu items for you, and with a TTS engine, can be expanded to also speak folder and filenames for you!
• Bookmarks, useful for those who listen to radio plays and audiobooks
• Far more than I can mention without making this email too big! :P

We meet in the basement. Enter the library and head to the back. If the door is closed when you arrive you can ask the manager of the library for the keys to the room if you're comfortable opening up the basement, or you can wait for some of the others to arrive.

Description: We will continue meeting on a bi-weekly basis at the Hudson Library at 66 Leroy St New York, NY 10014.

It is helpful, but not necessary to have a notebook computer. There's WiFi in the library for your convenience.
